Defence minister-designate Abdullah Habibi wins trust vote
The minister-designate was introduced to the assembly along with President Ashraf Ghani’s pick for the spymaster for a vote of confidence.
Habibi presented his work plans and strategies to the legislators before members reposed their confidence in him.
Of the 224 members present in the house, 167 voted for Habibi, who needed 113 ballots to become defence minister.
MoD has been led by an acting minister for the past two and a half years. The NDS has also been spearheaded by an acting head after Rahmatullah Nabil resigned in December, 2015.
A number of lawmakers have previously complained that one major cause of insecurity in the country is acting leadership of security organs.
