Casualties as supporters of rival commanders clash in Herat
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A clash between supporters of rival insurgent commanders has left 30 rebels killed or injured in western Herat province, an official said Tuesday.
Jilani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash between loyalists of Mullah Rassoul and Mullah Haibatullah erupted on Sunday night and ended on Monday night.
The gun battle happened on the border between Pashtoon Zarghoon and Adraskan districts of the province. Up to 30 militants on both sides suffered casualties.
Farhad did not have exact figures of the militants killed and injured but said Mullah Rassoul’s supporters had suffered more casualties. Four men killed in the clash belonged to Pashtoon Zarghoon district.
