HR commission seeks action over Faryab execution
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The human rights commission in northwestern Faryab province on Thursday condemned the execution of a man accused of planting bomb in Garziwan district, saying the perpetrators should be arrested.
Two days back, a person whose relatives had suffered casualties in a roadside bombing publicly executed a man named Qari Mohibullah for allegedly planting IEDs and supporting Taliban in Tagabashan area.
Faryab Governor Syed Anwar Sadat confirmed the incident and said the execution was committed by those who had lost family members in the explosion a few days ago.
He said the bomb planter was identified and captured by the relatives of the victims. They executed him publiclyin disregard of the country’s laws, the governor added.
Tagabashan is 17 kilometers from the district center, where the government has weak writ. Sadat said the incident would be investigated and those involved brought to justice.
Syed Hafizullah Fitrat, director of the human rights commission, condemned the execution and asked the government to arrest the perpetrators.He warned of more executions if the government did not move to control such incidents.
Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Javed Baidar, said a delegation had been appointed to identify and arrest the individuals involved in the illegal execution.
