SCO summit: President Ghani arrives in Tashkent
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani, heading a high-level delegation, on Thursday arrived in Tashkent, the capital of neighboring Uzbekistan, to attend the 16th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
The president and his delegation were received at the Tashkent international airport by Uzbekistan Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev, minister of justice, deputy minister of foreign affairs and mayor of Tashkent upon arriving.
Then Ghani and Mirziyoyev met discussing and exchanging views Afghan-Uzbek relations in various fields.
A statement from the Presidential Palace in Kabul said President Ghani during the two-day visit besides attending the 16th SCO summit will also be meeting his Uzbekistan counterpart and several heads of other states on the sidelines.
Earlier, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said Pakistan had requested a meeting between President Ghani and his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain in Tashkent.
Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabani, National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, National Directorate of Security chief Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai and other officials are accompanying the president on this trip.
