3 police killed in Kandahar insider attack
KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): In a latest insider attack, three policemen were killed by their two colleagues linked to the Taliban in the Khakrez district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Sunday.
The incident took place in Tora post area, the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the attackers had connections with the Taliban and the duo had fled after killing three police. The two also took away some weapons with them.
Local officials did not speak about the latest green-on-blue attack, for which the Taliban had claimed responsibility.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the two attackers were Taliban members who had reached their comrades after the incident.
A number of such attacks have taken place in Kandahar and in most cases the attackers had managed to flee.
Meanwhile, the Afghan Special Security Forces conducted an operation in the Shah Walikot district last night, killing and capturing a number of insurgents and confiscating weapons, the governor’s spokesman said.
Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was carried out in Chaghtu area of the district. He said four militants were killed and five others captured alive and 127 uniforms of Afghan police, military and intelligence forces were confiscated.
Khpalwak said the militants had been using the uniform in their terrorist attacks and with the capture of the dresses, their future such attacks were frustrated.
