14 Taliban militants killed in Uruzgan clashes
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Taliban’s military commander for central Uruzgan province was among 14 others killed during clashes with security forces, the provincial police chief said on Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Wais Samimi told a press conference here that dozens of insurgents launched attacks on security forces yesterday.
In the return fire and subsequent operation, he said, Taliban military chief for Uruzgan and 13 others rebels were killed and 15 more injured.
He said insurgents from four other provinces had joined their comrades in Uruzgan and they launched their attacks in order destabilise some areas.
He said four security personnel were also wounded during the clashes. The police chief said the Taliban were facing defeat and had no courage to enter a face-to-face fight with Afghan security forces.
He also assured the residents of the province that elaborate security measures would be put in place during Eid holidays in order the religious festival passes off peacefully.
