73 rebels dead, scores hurt in Nuristan airstrikes
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): At least 73 militants have been killed and 26 others wounded in airstrikes by the Afghan Air Force (AAF) and foreign troops in eastern Nuristan province, the government claimed on Thursday.
The airstrikes were conducted in response to militant attacks on security check-posts in Kamdesh district, a brief statement from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
Maj. Haroon Yousufzai, spokesman for the 3rd unit of the Selab Military Corps, said the insurgents wanted to create disturbance in the district thought coordinated attacks on check-posts.
Civilians and security officials suffered no causalities in the operation. Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayyum confirmed the airstrikes and said a notorious Taliban commander was among the dead.
