Time for Afghan refugees to go home, says Baloch
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Now is the time for the repatriation of Afghan refugees to their homeland, as the Pakistan government is seriously mulling over the issue, a minister has said.
Pakistan has been hosting for decades the refugees who should be sent back home with respect and dignity, the minister of state and frontier regions (SAFRON) said on Wednesday night.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Abdul Qadir Baloch said: “Hosting them was our international commitment and we have met it. As they are an extra burden on our economy, they must go back.”
A timeframe and strategy for their repatriation were the issues the parties concerned would discuss shortly, he said, blaming the Afghan government for taking concrete measures to bring home its citizens.
“The UNHCR is on board and some international donors from the European Union have also sent some positive indicators to help in their repatriation,” the minister said in response to a query.
