Police claim arresting 8 target killers in Nangarhar

Police claim arresting 8 target killers in Nangarhar

Jul 03, 2016 - 20:17

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police in eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday claimed arresting eight ‘target killers’ in the provincial capital, Jalalabad.

Crime branch police chief Col. Qudratullah Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News they had chalked out a special security plan after some incidents of targeted killings.

“In recent days, intelligence officials arrested six terrorists and police arrested two. They had confessed to their crimes of targetted killings and further investigation from them is underway.” He said the detained persons were affiliated with the so-called Islamic State or Daesh group.

The police official said incidents of targeted killings had significantly reduced in Nangarhar compared to the past. He said three incidents of the kind had taken place in the past weeks, but nothing of the sort happened in recent past.

Col. Azizi said police had arrested seven robbers in Jalalabad and the detainees were being questioned.

The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said special operation has been launched in Jalalabad to prevent targeted killings.

“A ban has been imposed on pillion riding in the city because most of targeted killings are often carried out by motorcyclists.”

Police in Nangarhar have recently confiscated dozens of motorcycles and had parked them in Zeton Bagh area, pending a decision of the authorities concerned.

During the past two weeks, a doctor was among three persons shot to death in Jalalabad City.
