7 injured in celebratory firing on eve of Eid in Uruzgam
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Health and security officials on Wednesday said seven people have been injured in celebratory firing after the sighting of Eidul Fitr moon in central Uruzgan province.
An official at the provincial civil hospital told Pajhwok Afghan News they had been delivered seven wounded persons, including five children, during the past 24 hours.
He said the victims were hit by stray bullets fired in celebration after the announcement of Eidul Fitr. He said first four wounded children were brought to the hospital in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, with one in critical condition.
Last night, he said, again another three persons, including a child and a woman, were brought to the hospital in injured condition. He said the woman was in a critical condition. The victims belonged to Tirinkot.
Security officials confirmed celebratory firing in Tirinkot, but said nothing about casualties. Uruzgan police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Wais Samimi told Pajhwok Afghan News that 24 persons had been detained in connection with celebratory firing.
He said police had warned all residents against resorting to aerial firing on the account of Eid, but some individuals defied the warning.
Local residents said they were concerned about fire into the air and that security forces had failed to prevent the practice.
