90 prisoners freed on presidential orders
JALALABAD(Pajhwok): Ninety prisoners were released from the central prisoner of eastern Nangarhar province and jail terms of 200 others reduced in compliance with two orders from President Mohammad Asharaf Ghani, an official said on Thursday.
Governor Spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the presidential orders for the release and commutation of jail term issued on first day of current solar year and on Mujahidin Victory Day nearly two month earlier.
Among the released prisoners were criminal inmates whose jail term was about to end, he said.
Khogyani said Deputy Governor Mohammad Hanif Gardiwal thanked President Ghani for the release of prisoners and reduction in the punishment of some. He said the release of prisoners would mean double happiness for the inmate families.
Deputy Appellant Court Judge Syed Sharif Niazia said that prison was not a place to take revenge but it was a facility where criminals could reform themselves.
