3-member target killing group killed in Uruzgan clash
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A three-member group involved in targeted killings was eliminated during a clash with police in central Uruzgan province, an official said on Monday.
Uruzgan police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Wais Samimi told Pajhwok Afghan News the group attacked a police sergeant in Deh Yak district of Tirinkot, the provincial capital.
The sergeant survived the attack and the three attackers were killed when the police returned fire, he said. He said the three-member group had been involved in the killing of government, security officials, tribal elders and religious scholars.
He said police had taken into custody corpses of the three, two guns fitted with silencer and as many motorcycles.
He said a notorious gang leader involved in targeted killings, landmine blasts and other anti-government activities had recently been detained by police in the province.
