Tajikistan’s consulate resumes work in Badakhshan
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The Tajikistan Consulate in northeastern Badakhshan province has resumed activities after a year-long closure, an official said on Monday.
Omaid Nazarov, consul-general, told Governor Ahmad Faisal Baikzad at a meeting here that they had decided to reopen the consulate after their security concerns were addressed.
Last year, the consulate was shut due security threats. “The friendship between Tajikistan and Afghanistan is based on common cultural, linguistic and social values. We are striving to provide more facilities to the people,” he said.
Baikzad hailed the Tajik government’s decision to restart diplomatic activities in the province and assured all possible support to Tajik diplomats.
He acknowledged the consulate had helped the people in getting visasfor the neighboring country for medical treatment and other purposes. The decision would help improve economic links between the two countries, he hoped.
