Afghan drivers asked to get legal documents till July 31
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghan drivers have been given the last chance to get legal documents for entry into Pakistan, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The final relaxation in travel documents for Afghan transporterscrossing into Pakistan via the Torkham border was granted by the Frontier Corps (FC).
Banners and pamphlets displayed at various border points asked the Afghan transporters the last relaxation for entry into Pakistan via Torkham would expire on July 31.
According to Dawn, one of the banners read: “This is the last time Afghan drivers are given the opportunity to get legal travel documents for their entry into Pakistan.”
No further relaxation would be granted after expiry of the deadline, it warned. Visa restrictions were slapped on all Afghans, including transporters, on June 1.
But the decision was retracted after three days when thousands of vehicles loaded with export and import goods, mostly perishable items, remained stranded on both sides.
But until the Eid festival, authorities allowed the Afghan transporters with route permits from the consulates in Peshawar, Kabul and Jalalabad.
