3 border police die, 5 injured in Faryab accident
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Three border policemen died in a traffic accident and five others were wounded in northern Faryab province on Wednesday, an official said.
The border police were travelling in an armoured vehicle that skidded off the road and overturned on the Qaramqol highway, the highway’s police unit chief, Safar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the incident took place in Majbor Hotel area of Qaramqol district. He said the victims belonged to the border police second battalion. They were heading to Maimana, the provincial capital, from the capital of northern Balkh province, Mazar-i-Sharif.
Safar said two of the five injured policemen were in a critical condition.
A police official said the accident resulted from high speed and inexperience driving. The official said some security personnel had no experience to drive, but still they were allowed to drive vehicles.
The accident came about a week after two policemen were killed after their armoured vehicle overturned in Dawlatabad district. Seven others, including an officer Sakhi Mohammad Qati, were wounded in that accident.
