Child, woman dead in Paktia clash after attacks on security posts
GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Two civilians have been killed and five people, including security personnel, wounded during a clash in the Zazai Aryub district of southeastern Paktia province, officials said on Saturday.
Zazai Aryub police chief, Mamoor Hassan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the insurgents launched attacks on security posts near the district centreat around 4am.
He said the clash continued for two hours, leaving a woman and a child dead and two civilians and three soldiers wounded. He accused the Taliban of killing civilians.The militants also suffered casualties, Hassan said without giving exact figures.
Noor Jamal, a resident of the area, confirmed the clash close to the district centre.“It was early morning when heavy and light gunfire erupted, lasting several hours.”
Taliban have not yet comment on the incident in Zazai Aryub, sharinga border with Pakistan and located 80 kilometres from Gardez -- the provincial capital.
