Bomber who wanted to kill Gen. Dostum arrested
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A would-be suicide, who was after First Vice-President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum to assassinate him during Eid days, has been arrested in northwestern Jawzjan province, local officials said on Thursday.
Jawzjan Governor Maulvi Lotfullah Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the would-be suicide bomber was captured in Shiberrghan City, the provincial capital, on Wednesday evening.
“This person intended to kill Gen. Dostum during Eid days, but failed, he was detained by Afghan forces when he tried to go out of Shiberghan City,” he said.
Azizi also said 80 mortar shells, thousands of gun bullets and two boxes full of explosives and a remote control had been seized in Mardian district of the province.
The governor said two people had also been detained in connection with the explosives and weapons.
Three bombs planted by militants on a local road were also defused, the governor said, adding a group of three kidnappers had been arrested and they were currently under police investigation.
