6 killed and wounded as stray rocket hits Paktia house
GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Two children were killed and four other members of the same family were wounded on Saturday when a stray rocket hit their house in the capital of southeastern Paktia province, an official said.
The rocket hit the house in New City area of Gardez, the provincial capital, at about 4pm, the governor’s spokesman, Naqib Ahmad Atal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the rocket had been fired from an unknown direction. He said the injured included women and children. The official said the rocket landed at the civilian house about 500 metres from the provincial police headquarters and other government departments.
The owner of the house, Abdul Karim, who survived the incident, said people used to migrate to the city from villages in order to be safe, but now they did not feel secure in the city as well. He said the insurgents should avoid firing rockets into the city because the rockets caused casualties to civilians.
An official at the provincial police headquarters, who wished anonymity, said the rocket that caused casualties to civilians was fired an hour later another rocket hit the public order police building within the police headquarters, but caused no casualties.
Earlier in the day, one policeman and one civilian were killed and two civilians were wounded in a gun attack in Gardez.
