262 killed, 799 injured in Kabul attacks in 7 months
KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 262 people lost their lives and another 799 sustained injuries in 17 bomb explosions and suicide attacks in capital Kabul during the past seven months, the with deadliest one taking place yesterday.
Two suicide bombers blew themselves up among hundreds of protesting people in Dehamzang area of Kabul on Saturday, killing 80 and injuring 231, according to the Ministry of Interior.
The Taliban had claimed responsibly for most of these attacks, but Saturday’s attack was claimed by the Islamic State (IS) or Daesh militant group.
Ninety-six percent of the fatalities had been caused by suicide bombings while 70 percent resulted from three major bomb blasts, according to Pajwhok tally.
The latest devastating attack on Saturday targeted a peaceful rally in Demazang locality. It was more deadliest than the one that killed 64 people and injured 347 near the Ministry of Defence.
About a month back, in the third major attack, 37 newly-graduated policemen were killed and 40 others wounded in Kampani locality of Kabul as a suicide bomber attacked their buses.
