Taliban siege broken, security personnel rescued in Jawzjan
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Security personnel besieged by the Taliban for the last three days were rescued on Sunday in Qushtepa district of northern Jawzjan province, a public representative said.
The trapped security forces had requested the ministries of defence and interior to send them food and other supplies as they had run out of the supplies after being besieged for three days, said Mohammad Halima Sadaf, a member of the provincial council.
Without going into details, she said some security forces had suffered casualties during Sunday’s fighting and the Afghan Air Force had been unable to collect them.
The governor’s spokesman, Raza Ghafoori, without giving information about the clash, said the Taliban’s siege had been broken with the help of the air force.
He alleged two Pakistani security personnel were taking part in the fighting against the security forces who were trying to capture them alive.
The Taliban have said nothing about the Qushtepa battle, but their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid yesterday said three policemen were killed and two others were wounded during a clash in the district.
