1,673 Humvees being built for Afghan security forces
KABUL (Pajhwok): AM General, an American heavy vehicle manufacturer, will manufacture 1,673 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) for Afghan forces, the US-based company said on Tuesday.
The company has been awarded a $356 million contract to manufacture and deliver the HMMWVs, also known as Humvees, to the US government for further delivery to the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police.
Under the contract, AM General will deliver 1,259 units of the M1151A1B1 and 414 units of the M1152A1B2 models.
Vehicle manufacturing will commence in August at the company's military assembly plant in Mishawaka, Indiana, and is scheduled to be completed by 29 July, 2017.
