20 insurgents killed in Herat’s Shindand district
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Twenty insurgents were killed and several others wounded during clashes in the Shindand district of western Herat province on Tuesday, an official said.
The governor’s spokesman, Farhad Jilani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash erupted early this morning in Shindand district and continued until 10:00am.
He said the Taliban staged attacks from Khyfan, Beland Kot and Abdullabad areas of the district on security check- posts.
But Najibulla Najibi, spokesman for the 207th Zafar Military Corps, said 17 Taliban including the group’s shadow district chief Mullah Nazarwere killed and 22 others wounded.
Security forces and civilians suffered no casualties, as one of the security forces’ tanks seized by the militants was recovered.
Naseer Ahmad, a shopkeeper in the locality, said the clashes erupted in the morning and were still underway. Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
