Senior Taliban commander detained on his way to Kabul
PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A notorious Taliban commander, wounded in clash with security forces, was detained in northern Baghlan province on his way to Kabul for medical treatment, officials said on Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Noor Habib Gulbahari, the Baghlan police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Faizullah Yaktan, Taliban’s senior commander, had been wounded during a clash in the Chardara district of northern Kunduz province.
“The Taliban leader being transferred by three insurgents in a Hilux pick-up was detained by police in the Pul-i-Doshi area of Baghlan,”Gulbahari said,claiming the detainee had confessed to fighting against security forces in Kunduz.
Yaktan revealed he was injured by a mortar shell, and his associates were transferring him to Kabul for treatment.The police chief said, the detention of the Taliban leader would have a positively effect on securityin Baghlan and Kunduz.
Residents of Baghlan, meanwhile, hailed the arrest.Haji Syed Mohammad, a tribal elder, said if government officials and public representatives did not travel in illegal cars, the Taliban would not dare do so.
