29 militants eliminated in Paktia fighting
GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Twenty-nine Taliban insurgents have been killed and several others wounded in clashes with insurgents that erupted during a clearing operations in two separate districts of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Thursday.
Provincial Police Chief, Brig. Gen. Qader Gull Zadran, told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghan security forces and Taliban militants clashed in Chamkanai and Janikhel districts.
He said, 21 Taliban rebels were killed in Janikhel district and eight others were eliminated in Chamkanai district and several others wounded.
Afghan National Army (ANA) and Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel had jointly conducted the offensive, said Zadran who did not give details about the security forces casualties during the gun battle.
Mohammad Yosuf, the resident of Chamkanai district, said the fighting between security forces and militants was underway since two days, usage of heavy and light weapons in clashes caused residents of the locality to fear about their safety.
Taliban confirmed the incident. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid , confirmed the fighting, however he claimed, several Afghan security personnel were killed including two of their commanders and some others wounded in the clash.
He said during the fighting Taliban took control of two security check posts in the area.
