11 Taliban dead, 9 wounded in Logar firefight
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least 20 Taliban militants have suffered casualties during a clash in the Baraki Barak district of central Logar province, an official claimed on Sunday.
Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that insurgents stormed a number of areas in Baraki Barak district. The attackers were pushed back and some of them killed and wounded.
Baraki Barak district chief, Mohammad Amin Rahim, said hundreds of Taliban had sneaked form Maidan Wardak province into the district. They launched predawn attacks and continued fighting until 6am.
He added 11 militants were killed and nine others wounded in the firefight. The bodies of some fighters are still lying at the scene.Two Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were also injured, he said.
Obaidullah, a resident of the area, said heavy clashes erupted in central parts of the district last night.He added both sides had suffered casualties in the gunbattles. The Taliban have not yet commented so far.
