None of Gen. Raheel’s relatives among Taliban-held hostages
The Mi-17 transport helicopter crashed in the Azra districtof Logar before it caught fire. Some sources said the Taliban had set the chopper on fire after it crashed on Aug. 4 and took the aircraft’s occupants hostage.
Abdul Wali Wakil, a provincial council member and resident of Azra, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Saturday Gen. Sharif’s son-in-law, Major Sardar, was among the detainees. The crewmembers had been seized with hundred thousands of dollars, rupees, weapons, satellite telephones and a GPS device, he added.
“Rumours are being spread about the identity of various crewmembers of the Punjab government helicopter that crash-landed in Logar,” Pak Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa tweeted. “None of the hostagesis related to COAS.”
