26 rebels eliminated in Badakhshan airstrikes
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Twenty-six Taliban insurgents have been killed and 10 others wounded in Afghan forces airstrikes in the Raghistan district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Tuesday leaving 26 dead and 10 others wounded.
Police Spokesman 1st Lt. Masood Arshad told Pajhwok Afghan News militants hideouts were targeted in the airstrikes late on Monday leaving 26 rebels dead and 10 others wounded.
He said the air raid was a part of offensive codename Kokcha launched in the district from July 27.
At least 53 insurgents had been killed and 42 others wounded since the launch of anti-rebels drive in the area. Four security personnel were also killed and six others wounded during the operation, he added.
Earlier, the Taliban cut off communication networks in the area leaving some 40,000 residents of Raghistan, Kohistan and Yawan districts without any facility to contact their relatives in other parts of the province.
The Taliban have not yet commented over airstrikes in Raghistan.
