‘30 Taliban eliminated in Paktia clash’
GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Thirty Taliban have been killed and five security forces wounded during an overnight clash in the Ahmadkhelo district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Thursday.
Deputy Police Chief Col. Mohammad Yaqub told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban assailants stormed security forces mini base in the Tarkani locality Wednesday night and the clash was continued until early morning on Thursday.
Security forces launched clearing operation in the area to hunt the insurgents down after the clash was ended.
Sabor Gul, the resident of locality said, heavy fighting erupted between militants and security officials in the area last night which was continued until morning.
Taliban confirmed the clash in Ahmadkeho district. The group Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said one Taliban fighter was killed and two others wounded in the gun battle.
He claimed 11 security officials were killed and the base was under the Taliban siege.
