2 ANA troops among 4 dead in Herat explosion
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Four people, including two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, were killed and nine others were wounded in an explosion in the Shindand district of western Herat province on Thursday, an official said.
Ghulam Jilani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place at around 1:00pm in the main district bazaar near an ANA check-post.
One ANA soldier was among the nine people wounded in the blast, he added.
But Akhter Mohammad Hamdam, the 207th Zafar Military Corps commander, said one ANA soldier and three civilians were killed and eight others were wounded in the blast.
Toar Mohammad Zarefi, a tribal elder, said it was a power explosion which was heard miles away and shattered windowpanes of some homes and buildings.
After the explosion, Taliban militants fired three rockets at a security forces’ check-post, but caused no casualties.
The Taliban have not commented about the incident.
