Nangarhar ready to celebrate 97th Independent Day
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s 97th Independent Day will be observed by organising special ceremonies in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
Deputy Governor Mohammad Hanif Gardewal told this at a gathering where the mayor of Jalalabad, the provincial capital, and the provincial information and cultural director were present.
Gardewal said separate committees had been formed to make arrangements for special celebrations on the account of Freedom Day.
He said poetry sessions, military parade, sports events and other interesting programmes had been scheduled to celebrate the country’s 97th Independent Day.
Aurang Samim, the information and cultural director, asked the countrymen to celebrate the upcoming Independent Day with national zeal and enthusiasm in every part of the country.
He said the people of Afghanistan understood the meaning of independence and they celebrated the day to express their love for the motherland.
Jalalabad Mayor Hamidullah Afghan said rehabilitation work was underway on the Shaheed Amir Park where a grand celebration ceremony would be held. He said shops and main roads would be decorated with national flag.
