Parliamentary elections: UN promises technical support
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and UN Special Representative Tadamichi Yamamoto have discussed the conduct of upcoming parliamentary elections, the Presidential Palace said on Thursday.
During the overnight meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues, including the conduct of Wolesi Jirga and district council elections,as well as the need for technical support.
The national unity government remained committed to reforming the electoral system and holdingtransparent parliamentary polls, Ghani was quoted as saying in a statement from his office.
Tadamichi hailed the Afghan government’s efforts and willingness to clean up the election system and conduct the upcoming vote in a transparent manner.He assured the governmentof UN’s technical support for the elections.
