Rio Olympic Games: Bakhshi set to take on Portuguese rival
KABUL (Pajhwok): For the first time ever, Afghan athletes are taking part in the Rio Olympics, with one of them set to take on his Portuguese rival in a judo contest on Thursday (today).
The Rio Olympic Games, featuring hundreds of participants including three Afghans, got under way on August 5.
Afghanistan National Olympic Committee spokesman, Ihsan Niro, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the national contingent was in a high morale.
The two other athletes are Kymia Yousufi, a female 100m sprinter, and Waha Zahiri, a 200m runner. They will jump into the fray on August 12 and August 13.
In past Olympic Games, Afghanistan has won two bronze medals.Rohullah Nikpa earned medals in taekwondo in China in 2008 and in London in 2012.
