Baghlan’s Dahna-i-Ghori district falls to Taliban
PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Local officials on Monday confirmed the Dahna-I-Ghori district of northern Baghlan province was under the Taliban’s control.
One official, who wished not to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the district fell to the militants after heavy fighting on Sunday night.
“Afghan forces retreated to the Jang Aghli area of Dahna-I-Ghori, bordering Samangan province,” the source disclosed. Security forces have not yet commented on the district’s fall.
A provincial council member, Firozuddin Aimaq, also verified the fall of the district but said there was no information yet about the fate of Afghan forces fighting the rebels.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, in a telephonic message, said the fighters captured Dahna-I-Ghori on Sunday night at around 8pm.
He said the militants had seized 12 Ranger pick-ups and a tank from the security forces.
