Paktika intelligence officer survives gun attack
SHARANA (Pajhwok): A senior intelligence official escaped unhurt in a Taliban gun attack and two militants were killed in return fire in southern Paktika province on Wednesday, an official said.
Provincial deputy police chief Abdul Rauf Masood told Pajhwok Afghan News the Paktika urban National Directorate of Security (NDS) manager, Mohammad Ibrahim, came under attack from militants in the center of Yusafkhel district this morning.
Ibrahim escaped unhurt, while two Taliban attackers were killed and a third wounded in counterattack, he said.
Bakht Mohammad, a resident of Yusafkhel district, also said two Taliban fighters attacked Ibrahimi in the district bazaar around 9am.
“Taliban in broad daylight ambushed the urban NDS manager in the district bazaar, but he survived and two attackers were killed in retaliatory firing,” he said.
Local officials showed the bodies of the slain insurgents to journalists. The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
