Road leading to Takhar’s Durqad district reopened
TALUQAN (Pajhwok): A main road between Durqad and Khawaja Bahauddin districts in northern Takhar province has been reopened for traffic after six days of blockage, an official said on Friday.
Police Spokesman Col. Abdul Khalil Aser said militants had blocked the road and planted landmine alongside the road.
He said security forces had launched clearing operation and reopened the road for traffic on Thursday night at around 3:00am.
Four policemen and dozens of rebels were killed during clearing operation in the past few days, he added.
Maulvi Sediqullah, the resident of locality, confirmed reopening of the road and said earlier the resident faced huge problems including the shortage of food and medicines and they could not transfer their sick family members to hospitals.
Taliban have not commented about the recent development, but claimed killing of 18 policemen and siege of Durqad district centre.
