Control of Khanabad district wrested back from Taliban
Khanabad district was seized by Taliban militants on Friday night after days of heavy fighting, as the security forces stepped back from the city centre.
Kunduz police chief, Mohammad Qasim Jangalbagh, told Xinhua news agency: "The security forces launched a counterattack on Saturday afternoon and forced the Taliban out of the district centre."
He said nearly two dozen insurgents were killed and more than 30 others injured during the clashes since Saturday morning. Security personnel had regained control of the office complex.
