Ghor mayor wants usurped land reclaimed within 3 days
FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): The mayor of western Ghor province on Monday warned of closing the municipality’s doors if the department’s usurped land was not reclaimed within the next three days.
Mohammad Arif Qazizada told a press conference if the municipality’s lands including green belt and welfare areas’ usurpation was not prevented, then the department’s activities would be suspended and its doors closed.
He said 20 acres of land belonging to the municipality had been usurped so far by some powerful men and no one helped the municipality reclaim the land.
The mayor lashed out at police and the provincial government for failing to prevent the land-grab culture and not considering the municipality letters and demands.
“When all municipal property and public areas will be usurped and we couldn’t do anything to stop it, then this organization will be useless.”
Around half an acre of land in Gudam area east of Ferozkoh, the provincial capital, has been grabbed by a Meshrano Jirga member Mohammad Dawood Ghafari who didn’t listen to municipality’s officials, the mayor said.
Rahmatullah Khan, an advisory board member of the municipality, said the government should enforce law on all people equally in order to reduce the gap between the masses and the people.
“The law is enforced on poor and hapless people only and powerful men always violate laws but they remain untouched.”
Khan said the government should prevent land usurpation in Ghor as green areas, parks, roads, government buildings and welfare areas had been usurped by powerful men, citing it a reason behind unresolved problems of the people.
However, Dawood Ghafari rejected the allegation against his as baseless and said: “The mayor’s groundless claims are aimed at preventing public representatives from monitoring projects. I had legally purchased a plot of land from the government and I have its legal documents. I don’t have any other land and home except this one in the province.”
