Young woman from Badghis decapitated by in-laws
FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): A young woman has been beheaded as a result of a family dispute in northwestern Badghis province, an official said on Thursday.
Dr. Juma Gul Yaqubi, head of Ghor Civil Hospital, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News that the woman’s body had been evacuated to the hospital.
He identified the victim as Raihana, saying a team of medics had been tasked with investigating the incident.
Police crime branch chief, Maj. Abdul Hadi Chelghori, said preliminary information showed the woman was killed by her in-laws in Jund district. He had no more details as the incident took place in another province.
Mullah Abdul Ghafoor, the victim’s cousin, said 18-year-old Raihana was a resident of Ferozkoh, the capital of Ghor province. She was 3 when her father Mullah Abdul Kareem engaged her to a boy named Abdul Ghafoor.
However, she opposed the engagement when she grew up. Ghafoor added Raihana’s husband belonged to a family of warlords who repeatedly tortured her.
The woman was finally decapitated by her husband’s family, Ghafoor alleged, saying the slain woman’s father died three years ago. He asked the government to investigate the incident and punish the perpetrators.
