Jamaat-i-Islami chief wants Chaman border reopened
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s rightwing Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) party has called for the immediatereopeningof the Friendship gate to facilitate trade and the movement of people on both sides of the frontier.
Pakistan had no option except friendship with Afghanistan to thwart India’s nefarious designs, JI head Sirajul Haq told a huge public meeting in the border town of Chaman.
Most of Balochistan residents were traders as there were no factories in the province and thousands of people crossed the border daily for trade and jobs, he noted.
Due to the two-week closure of the gate, people had been lining up on both sides in the hope of the border’s reopening, the senator said, adding that the Pakistan’s frontier with Afghanistan was not like the one with India.
Pakistan had ideological differences with India but shared multiple bonds with Afghanistan, Sirajul Haq remarked, reiterating the gate must be reopened to remove Kabul-Islamabad mistrust.
