Kidnapped-freed aid worker conferred Malalai Award
President Ghani on Tuesday evening conferred the Malalai of Maiwand Award on Kerry Jane Wilson for braving security threats to help needy Afghan women on humanitarian ground.
The aid worker was kidnapped in late April in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, and was rescued during a special operation by intelligence officials, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
Wilson thanked President Ghani for giving her the prestigious award in recognition of her services. She also thanked the Afghan security forces for releasing her from the clutches of her captors.
She said she had a special love for the Afghans and she would continue her humanitarian work for Afghan women.
