In a bid to bury the hatchet, Ghani, Abdullah meet again
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met for a fourth time on the implementation of the political agreement on the national unity government.
A statement from Abdullah’s office said Thursday the top government leaders held talks on Wednesday evening on breaking the deadlock, an issue that was also discussed in detail at the previous meetings.
Ghani and Abdullah discussed appointments based on the political agreement, consultations on vital issues, service-oriented public representation, meritocracyand genuine electoral reforms.
Both agreed on the enforcement of the accord on forming the unity government, cooperation on national affairs, defining the powers of the president and the CEO and improving the government’s performance.
On August 11, Dr. Abdullah criticised Ghani’s leadership and said he was obliged to make public his differences with the president. He alleged key pledges like convening a Loya Jirga, amending the Constitution and introducing electoral reforms had not been honoured so far.
