Clashes in Badpakh cut off power supply to Jalalabad
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Fighting in the Badpakh area of eastern Laghman has cut off power supply to Jalalabad -- the capital of Nangarhar -- from Naghlu dam, the Energy and Water Department head said on Monday.
“Our technical team is ready to repair the transmission line, but when workers go to the area, militants fire at them,” Director Wahidullah Popalzai told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Local tribal elders had been tasked to negotiate with the fighters, he said, adding the fault would be fixed today if the two sides reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, the Laghman governor’s spokesman confirmed the transmission line had been damaged at two places in the area as a result of clashes in Bari Kala neighbourhood.
Sarhadi Zwak hope the tribal elders would be able to convince the insurgents into letting technicians repair the power supply line. At least two fighters were killed in the gunbattle.
