Death toll from twin suicide attacks raises to 41
KABUL CITY (Pajhwok): The death toll from Monday’s twin suicide attacks near the Ministry of Defense in Kabul has risen to 41, with 110 others wounded, the Ministry of Public Health (MoHP) said on Wednesday.
A day earlier, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) had said that 35 people were killed and over one hundred wounded in the assault, which drew sharp criticism from different quarters.
MoPH spokesman Dr. Wahid Majrooh told Pajhwok Afghan News the death toll reached to 41. He said 110 other people injured in the incident were under treatment.
The ministry said most of the victims were civilians. Five officials of MoD were among the dead, it added.
However, some security sources say majority of the dead were MoD staffers, including a brigadier, manager and the deputy chief of Kabul’s second police district.
Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack, saying several MoD officials were among the casualties.
