ECO interested in increasing cooperation with Afghanistan
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) secretary general on Wednesday said his organization was interested in increasing cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields and availing the existing opportunities.
Halil İbrahim Akça said this during a meeting with Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah at his office, a statement from the CEO office said.
It said the ECO secretary general said they were making efforts at improving economic, trade and transit activities at the levels of central Asia and region and reaching this goal needed cooperation from member countries.
He said ECO along with Afghanistan and other member countries was making joint efforts at strengthening trade, power, transport, transit and tourism sectors and taking advantage of the current opportunities.
For his part, Abdullah said Afghanistan considered ECO’s activities as significant and was providing fully support in this regard.
He termed ECO member countries’ efforts as critical for utilizing available economical opportunities and intensifying cooperation.
He said Afghanistan as a ECO member was committed to providing necessary cooperation aimed at strengthening the organization and expanding economical cooperation.
The CEO directed the ministries of foreign affairs and economy to follow organized and specific ways in devising all future plans and activities with the ECO.
It provides a platform to discuss ways to improve development and promote trade and investment opportunities.
