President Ghani likely to visit India next week
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani is expected to travel to India on an official visit in near future, his deputy spokesman said on Saturday.
Dawa Khan Menapal said the president would head a high-level delegation during the trip that might take place next week. He, however, did not provide an exact date for the president’s visit to New Delhi.
But an official said the president was expected to leave for India on the third day of Eidul Adha (September 14).
Menapal said the president would hold separate meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials and would talk about the launch of the second phase of India’s assistance to Afghanistan.
Besides some small projects, investment in Chabahar Port, construction of Salma Dam, Zaranj-Delaram Road and the parliament building which were part of the first phase of Indian assistance had been completed, Menapal said.
India has provided three fighter jets to Afghanistan and the delivery of a fourth is expected in near future.
The president trip, which coincides with Eidul Adha festival, will follow Afghan Army Chief Gen. Qadam Shah Shahim’s visit to India. Shahim reportedly shared ‘a wish list’ with top Indian officials.
The US, India and Afghanistan trilateral meeting is also expected this month in New York.
