Lashkargah under tight security blanket for Eidul Adha
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Tight security measures have been put in place in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, and areas under government’s control on the eve of religious festival Eidul Adha starting tomorrow.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hakim Angar, the 505 Bost Zone police commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Sunday that police and other law enforcement agencies had launched operations in various areas and special security plans had been devised for the religious festival.
Angar assured all types of possible security incidents would be frustrated and people enabled to celebrate the sacred occasion peacefully.
He said police were currently busy conducting searches at various parts of Lashkargah and no individual or vehicle could enter the security cordon without being searched.
The senior police official said besides Lashkargah operations were underway in districts as well and people’s concerns about insecurity in some areas would be addressed soon and the rebels would be vanquished.
However, some people said they had lost hope due to the conflict and insecurities and were concerned about the religious festival.
Sher Mohammad, a resident of Lashkargah, said a large number of displaced families lived on the edges of the city away from their villages and homes.
He urged the government to improve security and provide temporary shelter to the displaced families.
