Nangarhar police chief killed in landmine explosion
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The police chief for eastern Nangarhar province was killed in a landmine blast in the Hesarak district on Sunday, officials said.
Brig. Gen. Zarawar Zahid was killed along with one of his police guards in the landmine explosion on Sunday afternoon, confirmed the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani.
The Hesarak district chief, Haji Malako Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Zahid was travelling in the district to visit a security post when came under attack.
He said three of Zahid’s guards were killed in the blast. Zahid was in Hesarak over the past three days as part of ongoing operations against militants in the troubled district, Khan said.
Zarawar Zahid had previously served as the police chief for southern Ghazni province.
