Iran seeks global community support for Afghanistan in war against terrorism
KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN Gholamali Khoshroo has asked the international community to support Afghan unity government in its fight against terrorism and extremism, a media report said on Thursday.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency IRNA, the envoy expressed the views during his address to the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) on the situation in Afghanistan.
He said Afghanistan was in the forefront of fighting terrorism and assured that Tehran would continue its full support to the neighboring country in elimination of terrorism.
The envoy said Afghanistan and Iran continued their cooperation in various fields following the trilateral agreement with India that focused on the Iranian port of Chabahar.
“We held coordination meetings at the governor’s level of the boarder provinces on 25th and 26th July to discuss security and new trade opportunities involving the port. Afghan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Tehran on 3rd August for discussion on trade, infrastructure and the presence of Afghan nationals in Iran,” he remarked.
He said Iran and Afghanistan were also committed to increase their connectivity with emphasis on the Khaf-Heart Railway track and other projects of connectivity.
