Sharif to drum up support for return of refugees
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for New York on Saturday to participate in the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly.
Sharif would drum up international support for the repatriation of Afghan refugees to their homeland and highlight Pakistan’s role in the fight against terror.
At the UNGA, he will make a policy statement on September 21 to enunciate Pakistan’s position, role and contribution on key international issues ranging from peace and security to development.
According to Radio Pakistan monitored here, the prime minister will also attend a high-level meeting of the General Assembly on Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants and the Leaders’ Summit on Refugees.
Heis expected to ask the international community for greater political attention and support for the voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and their sustainable reintegration in Afghanistan.
