Peace deal with HIA final, no obstacle exists: Faisal

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The peace deal with Gulbuddin-led Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA) has been finalized and there is no disagreement with regard to efforts at bringing peace and stability to the country, a spokesman for the Chief Executive Office (CEO) said on Sunday.

Javed Faisal told Pajhwok Afghan News the High Peace Councilinfo-icon (HPC) was still in negotiations with HIA and the peace deal had been finalised.

Faisal did not give a date for final signature on the agreed draft agreement between the HPC and the HIA, but said there was no group opposed to the peace agreement with the second largest militant group after the Talibaninfo-icon.

Earlier, the HPC had said all issues concerning the peace deal had been resolved and no obstacle remained to prevent signing of the peace pact with Hikmatyar’s group.

Meanwhile, some sources within the government said CEO Abdullah Abdullah had showed disagreement with some points in the peace agreement with HIA and had shared his reservations in this regard with HPC Chairman Pir Syed Ahmad Gilani.

But President Ashraf Ghani had said he would not accept any illogical obstacle in the way of peace process with HIA and assured that a huge progress in the peace accord with the HIA delegation v had been made.
